There is that one moment when you sit with your feet curled up on the edge of the bed, feeling the raised border of the mattress underneath your toes, knees pulled to your chin and t-shirt pulled over your shivering body, torso and legs and all. You sit in exhaustion and fear and you think, "my god, my heart is breaking, it's breaking" and yet, when you open your eyes, you're still here--time has passed but there are still things to do, and even though right now you feel like you can't do them, there's only a few hours left until the sunrise. By then, they'll be done, no question about it. You just wish you could speed through life the way he points the remote to the tv screen and fast forwards without a second thought--while you sit there, as unnoticed as always in the suffocating silence that ensues.
