L'Oréal Pro-Matte Infallible Drugstore Foundation Review

12:23 AM

Hey guys! Super excited to bring you this new blog post. I went to CVS on Friday in search of some good Halloween decor and new fall drugstore collections (which I unfortunately did not find), but then I remembered that I've been dying to try the new (well not really new anymore) L'oreal Infallible foundation.

I had been hesitant about the foundation before mainly because of the price. I heard so many good things about it from the Youtube makeup artists I follow, but it still is $13, which is quite pricey for a drugstore product. I luckily had a CVS coupon for $3 off, but I don't know... $10 still seems like a lot for a drugstore foundation to me!

Unfortunately, the CVS I visited didn't have the right colors for me in stock. They had the lightest neutral shade (101), and the lightest pink-toned shade (102). I wanted to try 103, which is the lightest yellow-toned shade, but that one was out of stock. I opted for 105, Natural Beige, which seemed like a yellow shade that wasn't too yellow or dark. Unfortunately, one or two shades too dark for me, as you can see from my hand swatches above. I'll probably go and switch it for 103 when I have time for another CVS run.

The Infallible Pro-Matte foundation claims to have a demi-matte finish, and to be long-lasting ("up to 24 hrs") and oil-controlling. I found all the claims quite true. The consistency reminds me a lot of the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, which I wore a lot in the summer during work. I'll have to revisit the Double Wear sometime since it has been a while, but I'm pretty sure they give similar coverage as well.

The Infallible foundation gives a medium-to-full coverage. It's not exactly full, but it is definitely buildable. It hid most of my blemishes/acne scars. I'd say that the Double Wear gives a little bit more coverage, but not by too much.

The demi-matte finish leaves just the right amount of glow. I prefer matte foundations, but it's not matte to the point that it looks unnatural, and it's not "luminous" either. I only powdered once throughout the day (I wore this today for 9+ hrs), and though I got a little bit of shine once I hit the 6 hour mark, the foundation itself hadn't worn off at all.

As for "cakey-ness" I found that the foundation does pick up on dry patches. Before I wore it today, I made sure to moisturize my dry patches around my face (especially the areas around my nose). After moisturizing, I'm happy to say that the foundation went on smoothly and didn't pick up any dry patches throughout the entire 9 hours.

I apply my foundation with a dense foundation brush (I used e.l.f.'s Blending Brush), which gives it a fuller coverage. If you're looking for less coverage and a more natural finish, you could try applying it with a Beauty Blender sponge.

All in all, I really like the foundation. I think it's a great dupe for the Estee Lauder Double Wear (and I worked at Estee Lauder over the summer!), and it's not too expensive (though it could be $10 instead of $13.. c'mon L'oreal). I only wish the foundation came in more shades! I'll have to try 103 out and let you guys know what I think! Thanks for reading!

Below are some pictures of how the foundation looks on me.

  4. I've heard good things about this foundation, I'll have to moisturize any dry patched first too. I don't think the colour is too bad :) x

  10. It doesn't look too bad. I kinda like how it looks on your skin well except that this shade is indeed darker for your skin tone. I hope you can find that 103. I'm very particular with drugstore foundation and the ones that I really like mostly Maybelline Foundations since they usually have my shade.
